Matt Myers creates hand-carved wooden sculptures & functional art using primarily locally sourced wood, allowing each piece to emerge through an ongoing conversation with the raw timber itself. Myers listens carefully to the character of the wood — its grain, movement, scars, cracks, & imperfections — allowing those natural elements to guide the final direction of the work.
Myers’ work explores the relationship between the viewer, the passage of time, & our evolving sense of beauty. Rooted in a belief that we are all connected to one another & to the natural world, his sculptures encourage a deeper respect for authenticity, renewal, & our connection to Mother Earth.
Every piece is shaped & finished by hand using a combination of traditional hand tools & modern power tools, with careful attention given to preserving the organic integrity of the material. The tactile quality of the finished surface — achieved through hours upon hours of sanding — invites viewers not only to observe the work, but to experience it.
Myers attended the Columbus College of Art & Design and later pursued graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati. Outside the studio, he is co-owner of the White Flower Cake Shoppe and remains actively involved in the community through the Ohio Search Dog Association, a 501(c)(3) search & rescue K9 team that assists regional law enforcement in locating & recovering missing persons.
