Working with Clay connects me to a higher purpose. Something that roots me back to what is important in my life, expression, passion and flow. I believe in the beauty that comes from a handmade piece of art, and its connection to being human.
I focus primarily on wheel thrown ceramics that are modified into both sculptural and functional art. I often use textural elements that reference things found in nature or in my gardens. I also love to use glaze with a painterly technique, referencing my time as an oil painter, creating a colorful brushstroke effect.
I enjoy making functional art that is both aesthetic and serves a unique purpose. Butter keepers, Phone speakers, Pho bowls and Cheese trays are some of my favorite functional items to make.
Large sculptural pieces are where I find the most joy. Timing and patience while working on a large piece slow me down to appreciate the process.
